About HudhudX
HudhudX is an organisation working in urban planning, urban research, spatial analysis, digital mapping and visualisation. It also develops Urban Lab, a research platform.
01Scope of work
What the work is concerned with.
- 01
Urban conditions
Understanding how urban areas are organised, who lives in them and how land is used.
- 02
Development issues
Examining the pressures and constraints that shape how settlements grow and change.
- 03
Spatial information
Collecting, analysing and presenting data about places, including its quality and limits.
- 04
Planning and development processes
Contributing analysis, evidence and clear spatial material to those processes.
02Organisation
Three service areas and a research platform.
HudhudX is organised around three service areas: urban planning and development, urban research and analysis, and digital mapping and visualisation. They share data and methods, and each informs the others.
Urban Lab sits beneath them as a platform for independent research, datasets, working papers and the development of analytical methods. It is being established, and no outputs have been published yet.
The organisation is based in Mogadishu, Somalia, and prepares its work for both local and international audiences.
03Approach
How HudhudX approaches its work.
Start from the spatial evidence
Land, buildings, population and movement are examined before proposals are made.
Document method and limits
Sources, assumptions and gaps in the data are recorded and reported with the results.
Keep planning, research and mapping connected
The three areas work from one body of data, so that findings and proposals can be traced back to evidence.
Separate findings from illustration
Diagrams used for explanation are labelled as illustrative and are not presented as results.
04Name and mark
The name and the logo.
‘Hudhud’ is the Arabic word for the hoopoe, the bird shown in the logo. The mark combines the hoopoe with an aerial survey drone, set above the HUDHUDX wordmark.
